My Journey in Asian Brush Art
In February 2023, I finally took the step to stop collecting art supplies and to actually start creating art!

I am currently taking landscape painting classes with Henry Li. Here is a simple but typical landscape inspired by the famous painter Qi Baishi. See page on this website with background on his life and works.
In Dec. 2015, I contacted Henry Li about studying Chinese Brush Art. I did not sign up for classes then unfortunately. However, the desire to learn kept percolating until early 2023 when I finally enrolled for classes. I made it a priority to practice every day and in a month I could not live without having some art time every day.
Chinese Brush Art suits me in many ways. I love the tradition behind it and the fact that copying the masters that have gone before is completely acceptable and actually the best way to learn. Therefore your own creativity can be cultivated while following in the footsteps created by your teacher and the masters of the past.
My teachers Henry and Victoria Li are dedicated, patient and excellent teachers. It is their kindness and inspiration that keeps me progressing and enjoying Chinese Brush Art.

He has a stellar teaching history around the USA in art, Chinese history and more. Henry also had a career in the digital realm in the 1990's.

Victoria Li was formerly a university Chinese language instructor at Nanjing University, Grinnell College, Western Washington University and more. While teaching Victoria also nurtured her passion for Chinese painting and calligraphy as a hobby.
In recent years Victoria has shifted her focus to conducting workshops on calligraphy and Gongbi elaborate painting through Blue Heron Arts. She is also an avid gardener, musician , Chinese cuisine expert and Qi Gong teacher.
Victoria creates sensitive, delicate and beautiful art herself. As a teacher, Victoria is bubbling with enthusiasm and makes her classes come alive with her warm and supportive personality. She is able to make difficult concepts easy to learn for her students.
I love my art studies and will happy to share my experiences!
